Dunedin Stirling Soccer Club is to be known as a “Peoples Club.”
Our club culture is to have a family atmosphere that acts with
integrity and speaks the truth.
Dunedin players must have great work ethic.
We want to be known as the “Hardest Working Team in America.”
The Team Concept is very important: “IF ONE GETS KICKED, WE ALL LIMP.”
Our kids can take these things wherever we go in life - what they learn
will be a solid foundation for their future.
Soccer mirrors life. The best things we can teach our kids is to love
the game and be a GOOD person.
Player development is what we stand for. The most important thing to
recognize about player development is that we implement a building
block standard - the development of a player spans three general
stages:
- Youth Level - Ages 6 to 12
- Junior Level - Ages 13 to 17
- Senior Level - Age 18 and older
Too often, children are put in these situations where development is
secondary and winning is a priority, which leads to burnout and
stifles individual skill development.
At the Youth Level - ball skills, enjoyment and experimentation
within the game are key for a players development.
At the Junior Level - ball skills, enjoyment, and insight into the
game, with a gradual introduction to fitness, mental toughness and
results. At this point, any success in winning matches should begin to
be the product of a consistent and systematic approach to the game
that focuses more on player development than on team building.
At the Senior Level - players need to use all these qualities together,
along with commitment to excellence, in order to figure out how
to win. If a player skips a step at Youth or Junior levels he/she will
find success and enjoyment more difficult as he/she moves toward the
senior level
We try to assist our Senior Level boys and girls with soccer
scholarship grants. I am constantly called up by the coaches from
colleges all over the US. Most of the coaches I have previously played
or coached with - soccer players; who go on to coach remain a very
“tight knit” group of people. We all look for the same things -
honesty, loyalty, integrity and great work ethic. I will never
recommend a player who doesn’t possess these qualities.
Another element of my philosophy is Communication. "Discipline and
continuous communication with each other inevitably lead to team
building."- Don Tobin -
